We appreciate the many individuals who have contributed over the years to the Society of New Concord’s efforts to maintain and restore our Community Hall and Meetinghouse.
We replaced the Community Hall roof in 2018-2019. During Covid, we completely repaired the inside of the Meetinghouse—including removing the pews to extensively repair walls and window frames before painting. We also installed new LED lighting and an air-extraction system.
We’ve had an amazingly generous response from our friends and neighbors to the Repair Appeal. Our goal is within reach! The good news: we have already—thanks to the cash now on hand—signed a contract with the painter, arranged for a person-lift to inspect the tower, and ordered replacement pieces for the building. Work will begin with the Summer weather of 2023.
If you have attended any of our events, you enjoyed the results of previous contributions: New Concord neighbors built and installed our kitchen, bathroom, lights, hardwood floor, windows, and entryway...with their own hands. It's been an amazing (albeit protracted) effort: we went from a wreck to a pleasant, functional space. With the interior so well restored, exterior repair and stabilization will safeguard these efforts and ensure that we have a welcoming, sturdy place in which to gather.
